Frequently asked questions
Volts, newton metres, brushless, SDS-Max — and everything about ordering.
What do 20 V and 21 V mean on cordless tools?
That is the voltage of the battery platform. Our cordless drills run on 20 or 21 V; the WM-IS12B impact wrench runs on an 18 V lithium platform. More voltage generally means more power reserve — but what matters for your task is the torque (Nm).
What does the Nm rating tell me?
Newton metres (Nm) measure turning force. 42–50 Nm (cordless drills) cover driving and drilling in wood and metal. 1200 Nm (impact wrenches WM-IS12/WM-IS12B) free rust-seized lug nuts and heavy bolted joints in automotive and scaffolding work.
Brushless or brushed motor?
Brushless motors work without carbon brushes: less friction, more runtime per charge, practically no wear part inside the motor. WM-SB21, WM-IS12 and WM-IS12B are brushless.
What is SDS-Max and why would I need it?
SDS-Max is the tool mount of heavy demolition and rotary hammers: chisels and bits slot in and lock without a chuck. The benefit: changes in seconds and full impact-energy transfer — found on our WM-AH13 demolition hammer (20 J) and WM-BH15 rotary hammer (12 J).
How do I use a torque wrench correctly?
Set the target value, pull evenly until the wrench clicks audibly — then stop, do not re-tighten. After work, wind it back to the lowest scale value to protect the spring. Our sets (WM-DS3, WM-DS30) work at ±3% accuracy with a 72-tooth ratchet head.
How do I charge and store the batteries?
Charge with the supplied charger and charge fully before first use. For long breaks: store cool and dry, neither fully drained nor permanently in the charger. All cordless sets come with two batteries — one works while one charges.
What protective equipment do I need?
For grinding and cutting: safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves — run angle grinders only with the guard and auxiliary handle fitted. Add a dust mask for demolition. Tools do not belong in children's hands.
Are the machines suitable for extended use?
The corded tools (860–2100 W) are built for long sessions — such as the 1.6 kg WM-WS86 grinder for overhead work or the 2100 W mixing drill for stiff material. The WM-AH13 demolition hammer has an aluminium alloy housing and vibration control.
